About
We are a Newton le Willows based community group that was set up in memory of Davey Fallon, who died aged just 20 years old.
We wanted to remember Davey in such a way that inspired others and gave something back to the community - to make people smile. What a better way to accomplish this than acts of random kindness?
As DARK we have been performing acts of random kindness for a number of years and the acts have included such things as:
- Covering the bill for every single table in a cafe (such as Mama J's)
- Paying for someone's shopping at the supermarket
- Paying for family entry to local events and attractions
- Delivering treats to staff in all the primary schools, care homes and emergency services
- Giving out bunches of flowers to random mums on mother's day
- Buying kit or equipment for local organisations
- Paying for children's haircuts
We have used money from fundraisers to sponsor some local sports teams including Newton FC and Newton RUFC as well as donate to other great local causes.
We have previously organised annual memorial matches in summer - which became a family fun day, with zorbs, bouncy castles and other games for children, all paid for using kind donations from the public. The memorial match has carried on until Covid hit and sadly we haven't been able to arrange another yet.
Everything we do is funded by either our own members or donations from the public. We have had a number of high profile fundraising events such as:
- The Walking Dad - One year on Davey's birthday, Davey's dad and uncle walked back to Newton le Willows from Southport - a journey just over 22 miles (to mark the age Davey would have been).
- Month of Madness - One April, Davey's brother ran 2 marathons and a 50 mile ultramarathon within just weeks of each other.
As DARK we hope that in remembering Davey through kindness, our actions will inspire the community to strive to make someone smile every day, and that the world can be changed – one act of random kindness at a time.
